Conan Doyle was inspired to write Hound of the Baskervilles by the unique Dartmoor landscape and its myths and legends. He explored the moor by horse and carriage – you can do the same on electric bikes. Our high-quality German e-bikes make cycling enjoyable even on Dartmoor’s steep hills and enable you to experience the scenery up close as he did.

This new half-day guided tour starts at Princetown, where the book was written. Your guide will tell you the tales that got Conan Doyle’s creative juices flowing and show you many of the places he included in the book: the mire, the prison (just an outside view of it!), the hamlet on which Grimpen is based, some of the tors named in the book, the “homes of the ancient people” (hut circles) and of course miles of fabulous high moorland scenery. On the return, our route takes us past the lovely Powder Mills Pottery where we are offering
** a free cream tea to each cyclist **

Tours leave Princetown at 1.30 pm. Return by 5.00 pm.
Minimum 2 cyclists, maximum 4. Must be 14 years or older. Cost: £35/person

We now have an incredible Walking Experience for you to try!

Prince Hall Hotel has teamed up with local wildlife expert Richard Hibbert to offer an exclusive opportunity for hotel guests.  Richard is a teacher and environmental educator who has lived on Dartmoor for nearly 20 years and knows our location well.  He is now offering guided walks for couples, families, groups and individuals staying at the hotel, tailored to your requirements and level of expertise.  Richard’s main passion is birds, but he has a wide range of knowledge about wildlife and the landscape and how to share this with others.  As a primary school teacher, he is skilled in engaging young people with nature and their surroundings, and if you go on one of his walks with your children you (and they) won’t be disappointed!

Just contact reception for more information and availability!
